Donor Advised Funds

A donor-advised fund (DAF) is a charitable giving program that allows you to combine the most favorable tax benefits with the flexibility to support the causes you care about, like San Francisco SafeHouse! A DAF allows you, the donor, to reduce tax costs immediately. Through your financial advisor you can then grant those funds out to charities like SafeHouse over time.

If you already have a donor-advised fund, you can recommend grants to San Francisco SafeHouse directly from your DAF. Please use EIN Number: 94-3327255

How does it work?

  • Establish your DAF by making an irrevocable, tax-deductible donation to a public charity that supports your DAF program. Any investment growth is tax-free.

  • Advise the investment allocation of the donated assets.

  • Recommend grants to the charities you support, with the option of being recognized or remaining anonymous.

  • If you are with Fidelity Charitable, Schwab Charitable, or BNY Mellon, you can recommend a grant to San Francisco SafeHouse using DAF direct.

If your Donor Advised Fund is not listed, please contact the host of your DAF directly to recommend a grant.

Planned Giving

Members of the San Francisco SafeHouse community can set up a planned gift to leave a legacy that will continue to create safe housing environments and comprehensive array of supportive services that help women thrive and enable them to rebuild their lives. These planned gifts include bequests, living trusts, and asset and security donations. Please contact our Development Department at Development@sfsafehouse.org for more information on leaving a legacy through a planned gift.

Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCD’s)

Utilizing a QCD is a tax-savvy strategy that allows you to transfer up to $100,000 per year from your IRA directly to a qualified charity. It is only available to IRAs and individuals who have reached the required minimum distributions (RMDs) age of 70.5. Any amount processed as a QCD counts towards your RMD requirement and reduces the taxable amount of your IRA distribution. This lowers both your adjusted gross income and taxable income, resulting in a lower overall tax liability. Please use EIN Number: 94-3327255
